CHEN-TSE TSAI
1993 born in Nantou, Taiwan
I create paintings and have long been concerned with the connection between civilization and Nature. I specialize in using plants as the narratives of everyday life.
My works have reflected my observation and reception of my surroundings. I propose co-existence between human beings and Nature and attempt to explore the environment, which we have taken for granted. Most of my themes are inspired by fragments and moments of daily life, such as construction sites on the side of the street, artificial landscapes, ruins, garbage, flowers, plants, and trees. I transform these sceneries into abstract images in my paintings and accentuate the messiness of these mundane scenes, creating a sentiment of ordinary life while hinting at the blindness of the everyday, suggesting that our beautiful imaginations toward the natural environment are nothing more than wishful thinking, or even a numbness towards society.
